Valérie Caro is microbiologist and head of the Genotyping of Pathogens Center (PGP), in the laboratory for Urgent Response to Biological Threats (CIBU) and Environment and Infectious Risk Unit, located at the Institut Pasteur (Paris, France). The PGP team’s research interests focus on molecular investigations of epidemic/emerging prone pathogens. The team is involved in the development of genomic surveillance toolkits that can be deployed rapidly for a better concerted public health response, notably in field or low-resource settings, and especially with the recent mobile next-generation sequencers. High-throughput sequencing is also deployed for in-depth metagenomics exploration of severe disease syndromes.
