Cette th\u00e8se, r\u00e9alis\u00e9e au sein de l\u2019\u00c9cole doctorale Sciences de la Vie et de l\u2019Environnement de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 d\u2019Antananarivo, a \u00e9t\u00e9 couronn\u00e9e par la mention Tr\u00e8s honorable avec les f\u00e9licitations du jury.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dirig\u00e9e par le Dr HDR Minoarisoa RAJERISON (Unit\u00e9 Peste, IPM) et co-dirig\u00e9e par le Dr HDR Javier PIZARRO-CERDA (Unit\u00e9 de Recherche sur <em>Yersinia<\/em>, Institut Pasteur, Paris), cette recherche a \u00e9t\u00e9 conduite au sein de l\u2019Unit\u00e9 Peste de l\u2019IPM. Ces travaux ont donn\u00e9 lieu \u00e0 deux publications scientifiques et contribuent ainsi \u00e0 une meilleure compr\u00e9hension des dynamiques \u00e9volutives de la bact\u00e9rie et \u00e0 l\u2019orientation des strat\u00e9gies de surveillance et de contr\u00f4le. Ces travaux renforcent les efforts de lutte contre cette end\u00e9mie qui affecte encore Madagascar, pays le plus touch\u00e9 au monde.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lovasoa Nomena RANDRIANTSEHENO a rejoint l\u2019IPM en 2016. Apr\u00e8s un Master 2 en 2018, elle a \u00e9volu\u00e9 de technicienne de laboratoire \u00e0 ing\u00e9nieure de recherche. Durant sa th\u00e8se de 2022 \u00e0 2026, elle a effectu\u00e9 des stages internationaux \u00e0 l\u2019Institut Pasteur \u00e0 Paris, au Northern Arizona University qui lui ont permis de se former en techniques de de s\u00e9quen\u00e7age g\u00e9nomique et en bioinformatique. This thesis, completed at the Doctoral School of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Antananarivo (Madagascar), was awarded the highest distinction with congratulations of the jury.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Supervised by Dr. HDR Minoarisoa RAJERISON (Plague Unit, IPM) and co-supervised by Dr. HDR Javier PIZARRO-CERDA (<em>Yersinia<\/em> Research Unit, Institut Pasteur, Paris), this research was conducted within the Plague Unit of the IPM. It was part of the Pasteur Joint International Research Unit (PIU) projects involving IPM, the Institut Pasteur de Lille, and the Institut Pasteur in Paris focusing on the emergence, maintenance, and spread of the plague.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Through the analysis of 614 strains of <em>Y. pestis<\/em> isolated in Madagascar between 1926 and 2022, Lovasoa&rsquo;s thesis still supports the hypothesis of a single introduction of plague into Madagascar in 1898 and identifies eight new genetic lineages, some of which are still persistent in current foci. This work has resulted so far in two scientific publications and further contributes to a better understanding of the evolutionary dynamics of the bacteria and to the orientation of surveillance and control strategies. This work reinforces efforts to combat this endemic disease, which still affects Madagascar, the most affected country in the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lovasoa Nomena RANDRIANTSEHENO joined IPM in 2016. After completing a Master&rsquo;s degree in 2018, she progressed from laboratory technician to research engineer. During her PhD works from 2022 to 2026, she completed international internships at the Institut Pasteur in Paris and Northern Arizona University (USA), which provided her with training in genomic sequencing techniques and bioinformatics.
